"ELECTRIC WORRY"
Clutch – “Electric Worry” (an homage to T. Rex’s “Electric Warrior” iconic album cover).
A coming of age story…
The setting: Early 1980’s, growing up in a neighborhood in a small Florida town just outside Tampa. I was a 10/11-year old that occasionally the older neighborhood kids would let me hang out with them. A couple of these times were really special to me, where we’d go up to Carl’s room and listen to rock records. This was my first real foray into rock and roll outside of the radio and my parents’ record collection. I remember pouring over the large format LP covers absorbing all the amazing and fantastical artwork, reading the lyrics and all the while listening to some of the most influential music from my youth… Van Halen, Styx, Rush, T. Rex, Molly Hatchet, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Kiss to name a few. That iconic T. Rex Electric Warrior record (artwork by Hipgnosis) really stood out to me…all black with yellow/gold image of a guitarist rocking out next to his amplifier. I can totally visualize Marc Bolan jamming out on an otherwise dark stage flooded by yellow spotlights.
I recently thought of this record and visualized this being a Clutch album…with guitarist Tim Sult standing in front of his ever-present Orange amplifiers & cabinets. My good friend at Breakdown Media provided me with good photos of Tim, and I added an Orange Amp stack with the Clutch/Orange logo I made and recreated the Kabel typograpy. Knowing that T. Rex’s album was titled Electric Warrior, it just seemed fitting to title this Electric Worry.
